Alumni Race at Bryce
This past weekend was an exciting and eventful one for the team. We had two days of GS, including the eagerly anticipated Alumni Race on Saturday. On this day, once a year, the racers of VASSTmas past gather on the slopes of Bryce Resort to relive the glory days and shred some gnar. We had an impressive showing. Our alumni came out in force, hugely outnumbering all the participants from other schools combined—easily 4 racers to 1. It was a day of revived traditions, jovial reunions, and general high spirits.
Soggy, Foggy Beech
This weekend proved to be a warm, rainy one at Ski Beech in North Carolina. Boarders and skiers were scheduled for Saturday giant slalom (GS), and Sunday was originally going to be slalom for skiers and boarder cross for boarders. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough snow for boarder cross, so it got changed to a second GS mid-week.
It started raining early Saturday, and didn’t let up for most of the morning at the mountain. Personally, I’ll take slush over ice any day, but things got a little ridiculous on the slopes, with patches of grass and dirt visibly poking out through the melting snow.

Sunday River and the start of racing
2012 is upon us, and the year is off to a busy start for VASST!
Last week about eighty of us carpooled up to Maine to spend five jam-packed days skiing, boarding, bonding, and of course, raging.
